Are you looking for a rare opportunity to directly influence the safety culture at our Fort Hills facility and to support our Journey to Zero safety initiative? In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with a small team of highly dedicated and committed Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) professionals in support of our operations. You will directly engage with front-line workers and their supervisors on the implementation of safety initiatives and the resolution of day-to-day safety concerns.
You will use your expertise to:Collaborate with leaders to support the design and implementation of EH&S programs, procedures, safe work practices, orientations, campaigns, etc.
Interpret and apply EH&S regulations that govern the site activities to help leaders make the right decision
Conduct incident investigations and provide incident owners with a full debrief in findings and work to provide solutions to prevent potential issues in the future
Perform incident investigations and mentor incident owners in root cause analysis and corrective action determination
Lead or participate in various types of hazard assessments
Perform and coach leaders to conduct field based observations (e.g. Serious Injury Fatality (SIF) control verifications, inspections, safety observations etc.)
Influence and act as a lead in the safety aspect of contractor management, typically through site-based kick-off meetings and field validations of contractor hazard assessments and/or verification plans to ensure controls are in place
Interact with regulators at a facility for expected and unexpected visits

Must-haves (minimum requirements):6 - 10 years of similar experience within oil and gas or another large operating plant environment
Experience conducting hazard assessments, incident investigations, and audits
A Bachelor or Diploma in a relevant discipline such as Occupational Health and Safety or the Industrial Hygiene discipline
A Valid Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation
A valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Preference for:Advanced knowledge in identifying hazards and controls specific to work within a petrochemical facility
Deep understanding of interpreting and applying regulatory requirements
Knowledge of how to tackle complex problems, strong communication skills and the ability to influence others and use advanced technical concepts to make decisions
Individuals with hands-on operational or maintenance experience (trades or operations)
Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:You will work out of our camp-based Fort Hills mining site, located in Alberta’s Athabasca region, 90 kilometres north of Fort McMurray, Alberta
The shift schedule is a seven days on / seven days off rotation
Role is primarily a field based directly supporting the plant and field operations
