Role synopsis
Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey (AGT) Region, Midstream Health and Safety team in Turkey is seeking an experienced Safety Lead Advisor who is expected to be capable of high-level performance to provide Health & Safety leadership & support to Turkey operations, and projects teams.
The Safety Lead Advisor will be responsible to work closely with the BP BTC Operations and Project team Managements as well as Contractors’ Management to verify the conformance & compliance with applicable legal and company Health & Safety requirements.
The Safety Lead Advisor will be based in Turkey, Ankara Office with frequent site visits across BP Turkey Operations areas.
This role will directly report to the Safety Team Leader, Turkey operations.
Key accountabilities
Provide Health & Safety leadership to BP Turkey Operations’ regional activities in safety related matters.
Manage safety management systems and regulatory compliance, contributes to strategic development and drive safety behaviours to ensure the business is informed and focused on managing safety and reducing risk.
Accountable to provide a more specialized level of technical advice to aspects of Turkey operations e.g. provide input on identification of emerging risks with regards to safe working practices, compliance with relevant safety policies and procedures; verify contractors readiness on HSE managements systems etc.
Manage the improvement of process and personal safety to achieve the goal of "no accidents, no harm to people and no damage to the environment", by conducting Self-verifications; investigating incidents, undertaking hazard assessments and assisting in providing health and safety training to the Turkey workforce.
Defines and embeds appropriate safety management systems and supporting performance standards (including Control of Work) to provide direction and professional advice on HSE requirements and systems and regularly reviews these systems and procedures to ensure simplicity and effectiveness of execution.
Acts as technical lead on different HSE discipline e.g. human performance champion ensuring the communication, coaching, training of the BP principles and working to ensure these principles are embedded into operations and future projects.
Lead region wide health, safety and compliance audits, identifying gaps, creating gap closure plans and implementing solutions, and assists with incident investigations and risk assessments.
Develops insights from safety metrics analysis, contractor self-verification and other findings to advise on emerging risks and improvement opportunities regarding safety and provides direction to improve site safety performance.
Lead the development and implementation of consistent site-wide H&S plans and initiatives for continuous improvement at Turkey safety culture & H&S performance, and develops & conducts safety training programs for the workforce as requested.
Lead development and implementation of Driving Safety Improvement plans as well as managing oversighting of this field.
Essential Education
Safety or Engineering degree
NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
Essential experience and job requirements
Minimum 8 years operational experience in Oil and Gas (or another high hazard industry) with minimum 2 years in leadership roles
Technical knowledge and Leadership experience in hazard identification, with detailed knowledge of HSE practices and procedures and delivery of safety programmes.
Turkish citizenship is required
